Accuracy of Several Implant Torque Devices

Abstract
Statement of problem: One of common problems associated with implant restorations is screw loosening and fracture. If an inappropriate torque were applied, screw loosening and/or fracture would be occurred. Subsequently, implant prostheses may failed. Therefore, accuracy of torque delivery system for tightening implant screw is very important to prevent screw loosening. Purpose: It was aimed to evaluate the accuracy of several implant torque devices and torque value delivered. Materials and method: Implant torque driver (3i Implant Innovations, Inc) for 10, 20, 32Ncm, Implant torque wrench (TW30, Centerpulse Dental Inc) for 30Ncm, and electronic torque controller (OsseoCareTM, Nobel Biocare AB, Gothenburg, Sweden) for 20, 30Ncm were tested. The delivered torque value was recorded ten times for each device. The Tohnichi torque gauge (BTG60CN, Tohnichi MFG. Co., LTD, Japan) was used to measure the torque value. The torque values generated were analyzed using analysis of variance and Student¡¯s t-test. Results and conclusion: Within the limits of this study the following conclusion were obtained; 1. In Comparison with 6 tested torque values, 3i implant torque driver for 20Ncm produced the most accurate and consistent torque values, and Nobel Biocare electronic implant torque controllers 20Ncm produced the most inaccurate torque values. 2. In Comparison with 30-32Ncm target torque value devices, Centerpulse implant torque wrenches 30Ncm had small standard error, 3i implant torque drivers 32Ncm had medium standard error and the standard error of Nobel Biocare electronic implant torque controllers 30Ncm was the greatest. 3. In Comparison with three torque systems, the accuracy of Centerpulse implant torque wrenches and 3i implant torque drivers were better than Nobel Biocare electronic implant torque controllers.
